Finding a Substitute Teacher

  • Always teach your own classes unless you are ill or there is an emergency. Students thrive off a consistent teacher. If you need to miss a class, here is how to find a sub:

  • FIRST: Email the studio, addressed to Naomi, to let us know the date and classes you’ll be needing a sub to asl for time-off approval.

  • Depending on the date and class, we may be able to combine your class with another class running at the same time or come up with another creative solution so you would not need to find someone else to cover for you.

  • Once you’ve been in touch with Naomi, and she confirms that you can have the day off and that you need to find a sub, reference our Substitute Teacher list in Google (which will be updated and re-shared every year). Contact several options at once so that you find a substitute in time.

  • If no one can cover for you, contact Naomi immediately and she will help you reach out further than our regular list. Do NOT leave this until the last minute.

  • Once your sub is arranged, email Arise to let Naomi and Jen, and Noelle know who will be replacing you so we can have attendance sheets ready for them.

  • Give your sub a list of what you have been working on with your students, share your music with them, and/or anything else that will help them give your class an amazing time while you’re gone.

  • Check in with your sub afterwards to see how the class went.

Note: If you know ahead of time that you will be away on a particular day (even if it’s because you haven’t been feeling well), it is always up to you to find a sub; however, if you wake up vomiting or feverish and are too sick to find a sub, let Naomi know right away, as she will likely be able to find a sub in your place.
